Ghana Street Photography

These images will put a smile on any face. A group of snap happy London photographers – Charlie Kwai, Chris Lee and Paul Storrie – have collated street photographs taken while travelling around Ghana into a new book. From the selfie beach lovers, to the exhibitionists and downright bizarre – the images capture every day ghanaian life brilliantly.

The trio known as Tripod City had one aim – “when you think of photography, it’s there to record, it’s journalistic, we wanted to bring that focus to street level and make it appealing” says Chris, part of the collective.

Initially locals were suspicious of them taking photos: “it felt like people were really concerned about the way Ghana was being represented in the media and maybe Africa as a whole – it was interesting to see this first hand” the group told It’s Nice That. Once it was explained they were there to capture Ghana as it is rather than any preconceived notions – locals warmed to them.
